West End, NC – June 28, 2018: Accelerated Technology Laboratories, Inc. (ATL), a leader in Laboratory Information Management Solutions (LIMS), is pleased to announce that it will be partnering with the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership at North Carolina State University and the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills to create an innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning opportunity for middle school club members that officials hope will be replicated at Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide.ATL is honored to be given an opportunity to participate in this exciting new learning initiative, which will introduce local middle school educators to a diverse spectrum of STEM learning experiences, careers and role models.

The Kenan Follows Program announced that Ashley Luersman, a STEM teacher at Aberdeen Primary School, and Carrie Robledo, a Digital Integration Facilitator who is working this year at Carthage, High Falls and Robbins Elementary Schools, are two of 25 public school educators in North Carolina who have been awarded 2018-19 fellowships.

Luersman and Robledo were selected following a competitive process that included an interview with representatives of the Boys & Girls Club, St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines and ATL in West End.

Luersman and Robledo will spend three weeks in July interning at St. Joseph of the Pines and ATL, respectively, to learn how the STEM components – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – are applied in the real world. They will then take that knowledge to co-teach a STEM camp at the Boys & Girls Club in the summer of 2019 and continue working with the students after school in the fall.

“These dynamic teachers will be exposed to new ways of teaching club members, thereby augmenting book smarts with actual business applications,” said Steve Chase, Chief Executive Officer at ATL. “The club members will see how businesses leverage what their teachers are teaching them. All of the partners are investing in everyone’s future.”
